Today, mobile phones are among the most commonly used communication devices. Everyone from a child to an adult uses mobile phones these days. They are indeed instrumental and help us in so many ways. There are hundreds of apps available to extend your mobile's capabilities. Mobile phones have become an essential part of our daily lives. It is also true for the population of students these days. It has become vital for them because, without a smartphone, it can become challenging for them.
Today, almost everybody in the world owns a mobile phone that they use for various purposes. Currently, mobile phones come in multiple shapes and sizes, have numerous technical specifications, and have mobile phones for various purposes, including voice calling, video chatting, texting or SMS, multimedia messaging, internet browsing, email, video games, and photography.
As the technology of smartphones is increasing, so are the possibilities for its different uses. In 2019, The Covid-19 pandemic changed our lifestyle dramatically. We were all confined to our homes. It was also true for the students. The government had to shut down all of the educational institutes, and online classes became the norm.
Students used their mobile phones to attend online classes via different apps. Students can do all of the assignments they were given on their mobile phones easily. They used meeting apps to communicate with large groups.
Ten years ago, it seemed impossible that students could attend lectures on the road; however, technological advancement has made it possible today. Students can quickly take notes on their mobile phones during class and share them with their friends. Hard copies of books are becoming obsolete because smartphones can download books without any issue.
Additionally, if a student has some issues regarding a particular topic, all a student needs to do is go to youtube and watch a video regarding that topic. There are multiple videos that the student can find on that topic.
Nowadays, all a student needs is a working mobile phone and a good internet connection to efficiently study anywhere. Students can also share different pdf files or slides regarding their studies.
If we take out the online classes aspect, a mobile phone is potent for any student. It has many uses, such as it being able to help a student manage their task and time efficiently. A mobile phone can organize all the tasks without any issues.
Students have a very hectic life; subsequently, they can suddenly face an emergency in which they need to contact someone. About 15 years ago, if a person had to make a call in an emergency, they would need to find a payphone because mobile phones were not very common back then. Today there is rarely a payphone scene because everyone has a mobile phone.
As a student, everyone gets tired of studies, and sometimes all they need is to relax and watch something entertaining. Since the smartphone has everything a person might need, they can also carry social media platforms with unlimited entertainment available.
Mobile phones are without a doubt among the best tools available to students, but they can also have adverse effects on students. It can lead to a multitude of issues if not handled properly. The main problem a mobile phone can cause is a distraction. As I mentioned before, mobile phones are a great source of entertainment, but if a student needs to study, that person needs to avoid such means, which leads to distraction.
About 7 to 10 years ago, when a parent wanted their children to study, they would take away their mobile phones. Still, since smartphones have become an integral part of a student's life, proper monitoring of the student's phone is essential for a parent.
Therefore, a smartphone has become a necessity. Students in this time and age require a smart device to manage their lives easier, but a proper check & balance is necessary, which will only benefit them.
