- Punjab Board Lahore's Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education came into being as result of upgrade of the erstwhile Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, West Pakistan in October, 1976. The Board performs multifarious duties to achieve its aims and objectives. The organization of examination at school level is one of the main functions of the Board. Similarly, it recognizes educational institutions and prepares their curricula. It also prescribes courses of studies and text books for school and intermediate classes. It conducts examinations for Secondary School Certificate (S.S.C) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (H.S.S.C) classes in the province of Punjab. The Board was upgraded as a result of bifurcation of the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, West Pakistan, Lahore with effect from 1st July, 1977 under the provision of section 7(3) of west Pakistan board of intermediate & secondary education ordinance 1971 (west pakistan ordinance no, xxvi or 1971). As a result middle east command was established which started functioning with effect from 1st july , 1977 comprising Quetta division and Kalat states, having jurisdiction over Balochistan Province. The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (abbreviated as BISE) is an educational body in Pakistan. It is responsible for carrying out the public examinations at secondary, intermediate and graduate level in the districts that come under its jurisdiction. The BISE system was first introduced with the aim to provide high quality education, promote competition among students and maintain examination standards. The entire examinations process, right from registration to declaration of results, is computerized and highly transparent. In Pakistan there are nine Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education responsible for conducting examinations and granting affiliations to colleges. Each board works under a government department which looks after its administrative matters:

- Peshawar Board
- Faisalabad Board
- Karachi Board
